Description
RailWorks constructed the track infrastructure to service National Alabama Corporation’s new rail car manufacturing facility at a greenfield site in Barton Riverfront Industrial Park in Cherokee, AL. The new $380-million single structure facility is designed to provide a low-cost, flexible operation to manufacture rail cars.
Scope
RailWorks constructed the interior and exterior tracks for the new rail car manufacturing facility. To facilitate movement of materials and rail cars within the one-million-square-foot facility, RailWorks constructed more than 35.000 linear feet of direct fixation track. Crews also constructed seven miles of storage, display and test tracks on the facility property. As part of the exterior tracks, RailWorks installed 22 #10 turnouts and more than 2000 feet of concrete tub crossings. RailWorks also constructed a 3,600-foot siding to connect with Norfolk Southern’s main line.
