Description
DART's $188 million Blue Line expansion will add 4.5 miles to the light rail line to link the downtowns of Garland and Rowlett, TX. RailWorks companies, L.K. Comstock and RailWorks Track Systems began work on the project in February 2009. The project concludes in December 2012.
Scope
L.K. Comstock is responsible for designing and installing the traction power, overhead catenary, signaling, communication, visual displays, and public address systems. The signal system includes a cab signaling feature with an operator decision support component that automatically adjusts train speeds in response to signals along the route.
RailWorks Track Systems is constructing 4.8 miles of ballasted and direct fixation track. The projects features installing track on four bridges, including two with direct fixation, one over the Kansas City Southern rail line at Garland and the other over Rowlett Creek.
