Description
RailWorks expanded the track infrastructure at CN’s yard in Proctor, Minn., to add the capability to make up trains.
Scope
Working at the south end of the Proctor yard, three track crews put in 8,300 feet of new track and installed nine new turnouts along with relocating five others. A surfacing crew was at work as well, unloading and placing 7,000 tons of rock ballast. In only a month’s time, RailWorks gave CN a new location for making up trains.
Unique features
This project came with a short, 30-day timeline. Crews mobilized quickly and coordinated efforts with CN personnel when taking track in and out of service to ensure regular scheduling was maintained.
Turnouts arrived in four-panel segments on flatbed “A” cars, and RailWorks joined with area contractor Lakehead Construction, using track hoes to lift and move panels to the points of installation.
