RailWorks served as the general contractor for this turnkey design-build project for a new yard and lead track at Progress Rail’s locomotive repair facility.
RailWorks constructed 11,000 track feet on wood ties, 1,800 track feet on steel ties embedded in concrete and installed 13 turnouts and one mainline turnout on the P&L Railroad. The crew also installed the track for four locomotive inspection pits.
Progress Rail purchased a site with an existing 600-foot manufacturing building to perform locomotive tear-down and rebuilding work. RailWorks designed a track system that utilized the existing building to efficiently service locomotives. The design featured three tracks extending the length of the building.
