Bascule Bridge

This marks the seventh steel tie project serving the North Carolina State Ports Authority. By using steel crossties on this long bridge deck, future tie replacement was reduced and thus promotes safety and downtime associated with tie replacements. Additionally, the track construction time was reduced and less ballast was required. For these reasons, bridges are a great application for steel tie construction.

With limited space and only one access point for all material, the steel ties were easier to lay out than timber ties. Plus, attaching the rail and having the rail in correct gauge all in one step is the most appealing part of the steel tie. Overall the steel ties was definitely a plus on this project. "
