Sheldon, ND – Northern Plains Rail Services recently finished constructing a new track utilizing NARSTCO Steel Ties and Turnouts. The project, completed in early summer 2024, involved the installation of over 4,000 Steel Ties and two #11 Steel Tie Turnout Sets.

Keith Brandt, General Manager, Plains Grain & Agronomy LLC cited cost savings as a primary factor in the decision to use NARSTCO Steel Tie products. The reduced number of ties required for the project and overall material costs made steel a more economical choice. Additionally, Brandt noted that Northern Plains Rail Services favored steel ties for their potential to expedite construction and reduce labor needs. While the initial plan called for wooden ties, the significant cost benefits led to a change in design.

Brandt expressed enthusiasm for using steel ties in future projects, indicating potential long-term benefits for their railroad operations.
