Seeking a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, A&R Logistics selected NARSTCO steel ties and turnout sets for its plastics transload facility in Berkeley County, S.C.

NARSTCO supplied more than 12,000 steel ties and 16 turnout sets to the project located in Moncks Corner, north of Charleston, S.C. The site will be served by class I railroad CSX.

“A&R is proud to offer a multi-port solution for exporting plastic resin. As part of our state-of-the-art facility in Charleston, we chose steel ties for our rail infrastructure. Steel ties are easier and faster to install, have a longer life and reduced maintenance compared to wood, and help our commitment to sustainability because they are recyclable,” said Alex Buck, Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy & Legal Officer of A&R Logistics.

The facility will be up to one million square feet and contain four high-speed packing lines for plastic resin. The facility has also been designated as a CSX Select Site — a premium rail-served site for industrial development and expansion.
