On Oct. 17, a RailWorks tie gang installed 4,004 ties on the Canadian National Railway’s Osage Subdivision near Charles City, Iowa. The crew operated 25 pieces of on-track equipment to install the ties in 10 hours — a rate of 400 ties an hour, or more than six ties a minute.
“That’s an excellent pace,” said Central Region Operations Manager Michael Rood. “We’re proud of everyone who made it happen inside the window of time that we had.”
Crew members included Project Manager Scott Collins; Production Superintendent Jeremy Hopkins; Production Surfacing Foreman Steve Cleveland, Foremen Ethan Henderson and David Jestis, and Mechanic Joseph Hunt. The Central Division crew is out of Lakeville, and the work was part of RailWorks’ tie replacement program for CN on five subdivisions.
