RailWorks was instrumental in a major transit project milestone in Maryland last week – the first track installed on the Purple Line project outside Washington, D.C.
RailWorks, through its subsidiaries L.K. Comstock National Transit and RailWorks Track Services, began work on the Purple Line project in August. The Purple Line will run about 16 miles of double track from Bethesda, Md., to New Carrollton, Md., for a total of 32 miles of track construction. The project entails a variety of track types; ballasted, embedded, and direct fixation, along with pedestal track within maintenance facilities and 56 special trackwork units. The initial construction that has commenced consists of approximately 2,000 track feet of embedded construction along Ellin Road in Lanham, Md.
“The Purple Line project will be an important infrastructure expansion for the Washington, D.C., metro region,” said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks President and CEO. “RailWorks is proud to be part of such a game-changing project.”
