In early 2003 L.K. Comstock completed work on the 25-mile extension to the 44-mile light rail system serving Dallas, Garland, Richardson and Plano, Texas.

Comstock installed the electrical power distribution and overhead contact system (OCS) over a 28-month period. This work included installing 18 prefabricated substations with switchgear. Comstock also installed underground feeders from the utility company to the substations and from the substations to the catenary system, all catenary poles and the cable to feed the catenary.

Unique Features

When DART asked Comstock to accelerate its schedule, Comstock’s design group and field crew were diligent in expediting the OCS system design and installation, working almost seven days a week for nearly a year. The end result was a project completed on time and within budget.
