Chicago’s elevated transit Brown Line runs from downtown (The Loop) to Kimball Station in Albany Park. The Ravenswood part of the Brown Line — from Belmont Station to Kimball Station — runs through many residential and commercial neighborhoods and is approximately five miles of a mixture of ballast track, elevated open deck track, bridges, and crossings.

RailWorks, via its Track Services division in Chicago, rehabilitated a portion of outdated track in fall 2019.

Over five weekend shutdowns, RailWorks crews:
- Undercut and rebuilt 3,500 feet of ballast track
- Undercut and rebuilt 200 feet of concrete tub crossing

Work was completed on time and with zero safety incidents.

Unique Features

RailWorks faced multiple challenges during construction on the Ravenswood Line, including coordination with stakeholders (customer and other contractors), high work volume in short work windows, and limited site access for materials and crew .
