L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC Awarded Contract by the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority for Electric Trolley Bus Power Substation Project
New York, NY, March 23, 2026 – L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC (LKCNT) has been selected by the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to deliver the Electric Trolley Bus Power Substation Project in Dayton, OH. The project will support the modernization of critical infrastructure, powering one of the nation’s last remaining electric trolley bus systems.
Dayton operates one of only four electric trolley bus networks remaining in the United States. The innovative transit system allows buses to draw power from overhead lines (OCS) while also recharging during operation. Supporting the system is a network of nine power substations strategically located across the Dayton region.
Many of these substations have exceeded their original design life, making upgrades essential to maintaining reliable service. Through this contract, LKCNT will replace and refurbish five substations, strengthening the infrastructure that powers Dayton’s electric trolley bus network and ensuring long-term operational reliability.
“This project represents an important investment in the future of Dayton’s electric transit system,” said Garrett Smith, Chief Estimator for L.K. Comstock. “We are proud to partner with the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority to modernize critical infrastructure that supports reliable and sustainable transit service for the Dayton community. Our team looks forward to delivering improvements that will help preserve and strengthen one of the country’s historic electric trolley bus systems.”
The project reinforces L.K. Comstock National Transit’s commitment to supporting resilient and sustainable transit infrastructure across North America.
