New York, NY (January 27, 2026) –L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC (LKCNT) has been awarded a two-year contract by Los Angeles Metro to replace the 7th Street Metro Traction Power Substation (TPSS) on the Metro A Line.

In addition to replacing the TPSS, the scope of work includes the full replacement of three Direct Current (DC) disconnect switches near the light rail tunnel portal, as well as upgrades to the Emergency Trip System (ETS) to enhance operational safety.

The project is part of Metro’s Capital Improvement Program and will include the design, manufacture, removal, and installation of new traction power equipment utilizing the latest technology. The upgrades are expected to improve system reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term performance, with an anticipated service life of approximately 30 years.

The 7th Street Metro TPSS is a critical facility that provides traction power to Metro A Line North and supports operations on the B and D Lines. The expanded project scope will add power redundancy, helping prevent service disruptions during maintenance and strengthening system resilience.

“The project will replace traction power equipment that is approximately 35 years old. It was originally installed when the Metro A Line began revenue service in 1990” said Garrett Smith, Chief Estimator for L.K Comstock. “Modernization of this equipment is necessary to support safe and reliable rail operations”

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and continue through 2028.
