L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC Wins Excellence and Safety Awards

For the second year in a row, the Los Angeles County Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11 presented L.K. Comstock with four (4) Safety Awards. Also, NECA presented L.K. Comstock with the Electrical Excellence Award for exemplary performance in 2022. The awards were presented at the NECA/IBEW awards ceremony on June 20, 2023, in Los Angeles.

The Terry V. Perkins Safety Award recognizes company and individual excellence in safety on NECA/IBEW projects for work performed within the Los Angeles NECA and IBEW Local Union #11 jurisdiction. The company is chosen for its overall safety record and proactive efforts to promote safety on its projects. The IBEW Local 11 member is chosen based on displaying a commitment to safety and health and involving others in that commitment on projects. L.K. Comstock and IBEW Foreman Kevin Bibayoff were presented with the company and individual awards in the 10,000 to 40,000 manhours category for their performance on the LACMTA Westside Subway Extension – Section 1 Project.

The Dennis Kelly Safety Award recognizes both the company and one IBEW Local Union #11 member working for that company for work performed in Los Angeles County under IBEW Local 11’s jurisdiction. The selection of the company is based on their overall safety record and proactive efforts involving a safe work environment. The IBEW Local 11 member is judged for their contribution and impact on company-wide safety. L.K. Comstock and Foreman Harry Penate were presented with the company and individual awards for their safety performance and commitment.

The Electrical Excellence Award recognizes the top electrical companies for outstanding work on landmark projects in Southern California that exemplify a commitment to workmanship, professionalism, and innovation. L.K. Comstock received the 2023 Electrical Excellence Award for their work on the LACMTA Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project in Los Angeles. Now named the K Line, the Crenshaw project was an 8.5 mile light rail extension extending from E Line at Expo/Crenshaw Station and merging with C Line at Aviation/LAX Station, connecting the Crenshaw Corridor, Inglewood and El Segundo. The K Line serves the Crenshaw District, Inglewood, Westchester and surrounding areas with eight (8) new stations. L.K. Comstock furnished, installed, tested and commissioned the entire suite of transit systems for the project that included train control/signaling, traction power (9 substations), overhead catenary system, overhead conductor rail in underground sections and all communications systems including CCTV, network, SCADA, PA, visual message boards, gas detection, fire alarm, access control, radio, seismic detection and tunnel intrusion. The K Line went into revenue service in October of 2022.
