No. 7 Line Subway Extension

RailWorks completed this $513.7 million project with joint venture partner Skanska USA to furnish and install systems and finishes on the subway extension from Times Square to West 25th Street and 11th Avenue in Manhattan, N.Y.

L.K. Comstock performed the following electrical work:

- Installed the signal system on the new extension, including 45 signal/stops and two relay rooms
- Installed the communications and electrical systems as well as related alarms and tunnel lighting
- Installed the traction power system for the third rail
- Installed 60,000 feet of antenna cable

RailWorks Transit constructed approximately 14,000 linear feet of track, including two turnouts. Crews also performed all related plumbing and mechanical services.

The project was completed in 2015.

Unique Features

The 7 Line Extension brings the Flushing Line to 34th Street & 11th Avenue, at the heart of Manhattan's newest neighborhood. The subway extension makes it possible for new housing, restaurants and entertainment to grow on the Far West Side. And the new subway terminal also improves service reliability for all riders of the 7 Line in Queens and Manhattan by providing additional storage space for trains.
