L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC and RailWorks Track Services LLC Will Deliver Turnkey Project to St. Clair County Transit District
New York, NY (December 1, 2023) L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC (LKCNT), along with RailWorks Track Services LLC (RTS) as its sub-contractor, have been chosen by St. Clair County Transit District to furnish and install the track and systems work for the 5.2-mile extension of the MetroLink Light Rail System from the existing Shiloh-Scott station to the new MidAmerica St. Louis Airport station in St. Clair County, Illinois.
LKCNT and RTS will be managing the project with a composite track and systems project management team to deliver an integrated turnkey experience to the owner for this new LRT extension. “Communication and technical expertise are key factors when delivering large scale transit projects, said Bill Heavin, LKCNT President. LKCNT will be responsible for furnishing and installation of traction power, signals and communications systems, consisting of (8) powered switches, (4) traction power substations, an overhead catenary system consisting of over (9) miles of catenary wire and (225) catenary poles, (6) signal houses including (4) interlocking houses, wayside signals components and communication systems consisting of closed-circuit televisions, public address systems, passenger assist telephones, SCADA and CTS system, and associated systems duct bank.
RTS will be responsible for the furnishing and installation of 41,000 TF of ballasted track that includes 17,000 concrete ties, 86,000 LF of continuous welded rail, and 50,000 tons of ballast. RTS will be utilizing their in-house flash-butt welding operations to perform approximately 1,200 each flash-butt welds. Special trackwork to be installed consists of a #20 Turnout, #10 Turnout, #8 Crossover, and (3) #8 Turnouts. These special trackwork units are ballast type construction on concrete ties.
LKCNT and RTS will also be responsible for systems acceptance testing, commissioning, and for assisting the Agency during systems integration testing of the new LRT extension.
Preparation is already underway, and the project is scheduled to be delivered to St. Clair County Transit District at the end of 2025.
