L.K. Comstock National Transit LLC (LKCNT) will be performing systems work on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Airport Metro Connector (AMC) Station that will serve to connect the Metro Rail System to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The AMC project links Metro’s 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX light rail line, for which LKCNT also delivered the full systems installation, with Los Angeles World Airport’s (LAWA) 2.25-mile Automated People Mover (APM) that is currently under construction. LKCNT will be responsible for modifying the Automatic Train Control (ATC) System and the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) to facilitate the transit connection between Metro’s growing rail network and the world’s fifth busiest airport by passenger volume in 2021.

During the project, LKCNT will install nearly 40,000 feet of signal cable and string more than 9,000 feet of contact and messenger wire. For its portion of the project, LKCNT will construct the systems work, including demolition and installation of the OCS, modification and installation of the ATC system, and all associated testing and certification work to support the project.

Scheduled to be completed in 2024, the connector project includes a multi-level open air center platform station and a 16-bay bus plaza that will serve Metro and other municipal bus operators. “This project finally brings much needed rail connectivity to LAX that Angelenos have been in need of for decades and will act as a gateway for those traveling in and out of Los Angeles,” said Bill Heavin, LKCNT President. “LKCNT worked on the successful buildout of Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX rail line and I’m looking forward to our successful completion of this addition to Metro’s K Line.”
